Oscar-Buzzy Hamnet has changed me, says actress Jessie Buckley
By Hanna Rantala London, October 11 (Reuters) – Actors Jessie Buckley and Paul Muscal went on a transformative journey into ‘Hamnet’, a film that received a good reviews and early awards season. Directed by the Academy Award-winning “Nomadland” filmmaker Chloe Zhao, the drama offers a fictional version of the relationship of William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes and the death of their 11-year-old son Hamnet in 1596. Free mirror Agnes, described by the residents as the daughter of a bush witch. Focusing on their family life, the emotion-filled film follows the highs and lows of their love story, as well as the sadness of the loss of their son, which leads to Shakespeare writing ‘Hamlet’. “What was revealed to me by her (Agnes) was a softness I didn’t know that I needed to learn and live in. And that the softness changed me,” Buckley said on Saturday during the film’s premiere in London Film Festival. “It really reminded me of how powerful and powerful storytelling can be. And it’s kind of a bar, as I just want to make films that are so brave and so human from now on,” the Irish actress said. ‘Normal people’, ‘After -Sun’ and ‘Gladiator II’ Star Meshal said the film gave him the opportunity to portray an adult man. The portrayal of love that changes through time was “very moving,” he said. “This is the first time I have stretched the real time with him, the early twenties, to a little in later life. It was wonderful,” the Irish actor said. The film is adapted from Maggie O’Farrell’s bestseller 2020 novel of the same name, with the author and Zhao writing the screenplay. It acknowledges that the names Hamlet and Hamnet were interchangeable in Shakespeare’s day. The project was emotional for Zhao, who was overwhelmed when she arrived at the premiere. “If Uu DP (director of photography), your production designer, see your costume designer and just start ball on the red carpet for 20 minutes, I can’t hold it together, I think it goes without saying,” she said. “Hamnet”, produced by Steven Spielberg and Sam Mendes, is released worldwide in the late 2025 and early in theaters (reported by Hanna Rantala; editing by Paul Simao)
