Palace says Ojol presidential decision is still being drawn up, will regulate rates and welfare
Jakarta – The government is still drafting regulations regarding the welfare of online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) and healthy business competition between ojol application companies. The regulations will be issued in the form of a Presidential Regulation (Perpres). “Everything is communicated. Yes, that is why we are studying the concept, then there are things that still need to be communicated to all parties. We are looking for the best solution,” said Minister of State Secretary (People’s Affairs) Prasetyo Hadi at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Friday (24/10/2025). Prasetyo stressed that the regulation will cover various aspects, from driver job status, rate regulation, to social protection for ojol partners. “Yes, especially protection for ojol friends,” he said. He added that the form of regulation being drawn up would likely be in the form of a presidential decree. That way, the preparation process can happen quickly. “Maybe a presidential decree, so it’s faster,” Prasetyo said. Furthermore, Prasetyo hopes that this regulation can be completed soon. He aims for the regulations to be finalized this year. “As soon as possible. (This year) it is very possible. There are only a few for which we still need to find common ground. But in general, almost everything is there,” he said. Motorcycle taxi drivers are known to have staged a protest some time ago. The motorcycle taxi crowd, who met members of the DPR RI at that time, revealed the content of their meeting about President Prabowo Subianto’s plan to make a presidential regulation regarding protection or legal certainty for online motorcycle taxis. General Chairman of the Indonesian Guard Online Motorcycle Taxi Driver Association, Raden Igun Wicaksono, said that they met directly with the Deputy Chairman of the DPR, Saan Mustopa, Cucun Syamsurijal and the Chairman of Commission V of the DPR, Lazarus. They voiced all their demands before the legislators. “The first is the draft law on online transport. Well, it was accommodated by the DPR RI, in this case Commission V. And all this to fill the gaps or what is called this draft law will take a long time. The president took over by drafting a presidential decree or presidential regulation,” Igun told journalists before the DPR RI, Wednesday (17/9).
