US President Donald Trump on Monday described his use of rates as a measure to stop wars, saying that his communications to India and Pakistan were ‘very effective’ during the recent conflict, and he repeated his allegation to end the battle between the nuclear armed neighbors using trade. “Rates are very important to the United States. We are a peacekeeper due to rates. Not only do we earn hundreds of billions of dollars, but we are a peacekeeper due to rates,” Trump said in the Oval Office on Monday. The US president said that if he did not use the ‘power of rates’, four wars would still rage. “If I hadn’t had the power of rates, you would rage at least four of the seven wars … If you look at India and Pakistan, they were ready to go with it. Seven planes were shot down, ‘he said, adding that he was using rates to stop wars. “I don’t want to say exactly what I said, but what I said was very effective … Not only did we earn hundreds of billions of dollars, but we are a peace aid because of rates,” he said from the White House while claiming to have a role in India-Pakistan. India has always denied any third-party intervention. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and aimed at terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Kashmir occupied by Pakistan in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense border border drone and rocket strikes. India has always maintained that the understanding of the cessation of hostilities with Pakistan has been achieved after direct discussions between the directors -general of military operations (DGMOs) of the two military countries.
