The authorities have requested residents living in coastal areas to move to safer places from the sea. The warning said that “wave heights in the coastal areas could increase and that minor tremors could be felt within the next few hours.” The earthquake’s strongest impact was in Davao City, the third largest metropolitan area in the Philippines. Panic spreads over the city and forces many residents out of their buildings. Videos shared on social media have shown that people who flee offices and markets on the street. Tsunami warning has issued the Philippine seismological agency, says a devastating tsunami with “life-threatening wave heights” is expected. Based on the local tsunami scenario database, officials said: “Wave Heights is expected to exceed one meter above normal tide, and it may be even higher in closed bays and sea streets.” People in coastal areas of seven provinces are requested to move to higher land immediately or go further inland. According to reports, the earthquake was felt as far as Cebu, the same city hit with an earthquake of 6.9 at the end of September that killed dozens of people. Local officials said no major damage or casualties were confirmed. The power supply was temporarily disrupted in Davao Oriental and surrounding provinces.
