Jaigarh Fort located in Jaipur, the historic city of Rajasthan, is not only an important symbol of the military history of India, but is also considered an excellent example of architecture, strategy and bravery. This fort, built on a hill called Aravalli Ranges, is associated with Amer Fort and is also called ‘Vijay Durg’, which means – the Fort of Victory. The fort was built in 1726 by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II and the main purpose of it was to ensure the safety of the city of Amer Mahal and Jaipur. The strategic point of view Jayagadh Fort is completely built to keep the protection in mind. Thick walls of the fort, hidden tunnels, lines of cannons spread over height and monitoring posts make it an invincible fort. Jaiwana Cannon – The greatest identity of the fort is the most prominent attraction of Jaigarh Fort ‘Jayana Cannon’ – is considered one of the world’s biggest wheels. This great cannon was built in Jaigad Fort itself in the 18th century and was built to show Rajputana’s strategic power. It is said to have been tested only once, and when fired, the cannon can hit 35 km away. Even today it remains a big draw for tourists. Viewing places and other major attractions are very picturesque places in the Jaigad fort that shows its grandeur. The most important of these are: Lakshmi Vilas, Lalit Temple, Vilas Temple and Aram Temple – all of these come to the palace complex used as the residence of the royal family and their resting places. In these palaces, paintings, windows, internal decorations and workmanship seem to live on the walls. Museum – The Museum in the Jaigarh Fort shows many items associated with ancient weapons, royal costumes, war equipment, coins and the military history of Rajputana. This museum is very interesting to history lovers. Reservoir and Water Management System – Many reservoirs and tanks made to preserve rainwater in the fort are still seen. It reflects the understanding of the engineering and water conservation system of that era. Jayagadh Fort is also a wonderful vantage point due to nature and Nazare Eagle located on the hill. From here, Jaipur City, Amer Mahal, Mavatha Lake and Aravalli’s valleys are captivated. The scenery here is very seductive at sunrise and sunset.
