Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann issued a strict warning to drug opponents on Wednesday, stating that those who destroyed the future of families by pushing their loved ones into the dark fall of addiction would face the bulldozer justice. (Ani photo) “We will not allow these drug pedlers to alleviate their homes with Deepmala (Decorative Lights) while ruining the lives of others,” Mann said while addressing a meeting of school and university students in Ludhiana on Wednesday before putting off the hike against drug campaign. Nearly 6,000 students, including National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme units, marched by Ghumar Mandi in the Ludhiana West meeting constituency by Ghumar Mandi. Mann applied a promise to the students to stay away from drugs and help others get free from addiction. The students also promised to inform police about drug opponents working in their towns, neighborhoods and colonies. Mann said that the Punjab government has been working on rooting the drug problem over the past three years and has now launched its full-scale performance. He emphasized the role of centers and rehabilitation facilities for opioidopic treatment (ewe) to help addicts to re -integrate into society. “We will ensure that those who have become the victim of drugs receive proper treatment, complete their education and work based on their qualifications,” he said. The chief minister of Delhi and AAM AADMI Party (AAP) National convener Arvind Kejriwal also addressed the event and took a whip at previous governments because they did not combat drug abuse. He accused the administrations of the past of not only looking at a blind eye to the drug trafficking, but also giving political protection to human traffickers. Kejriwal praised the Punjab government’s suppression of drug networks, saying that the bulldozer action against drug pedlers was a first in the history of India. “What is happening now has never been done for the past 75 years,” he said, calling on students to actively participate in the anti-drug campaign. He said their involvement is very important to build a ‘rangla punjab’ (a lively and drug -free punjab).
