Jagran correspondent, New -Delhi. During the monsoon, the Delhi High Court asked the civil agencies to ensure that only the treated water was released in the Yamuna River. The Court ordered the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) to submit a joint report. The court said in the report all sewerage treatment plants (STPs) should set up an action plan to be adopted by them to remove the shortcomings exposed by a special committee on the release of water in the Yamuna River. A Bench of Justice Pratiba M Singh and Justice Many Pritam Singh Arora visited the report submitted by the Special Committee. The bank said there was a need to do extensive work through civil agencies in the national capital to ensure that only treated water is released into the river. The bank said the special committee did sufficient work. However, there is a need to remove different shortcomings and take more detailed steps. The court ordered the members of the Special Committee to hold a meeting on August 7 with DJB, MCD, Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited and Delhi Pollution Control Committee. The court said it should also include agency and authority officers who will need cooperation. The bank said the authorities could agree to further meetings in this regard after the said meeting. The bank said DJB and MCD would submit an action plan to remove their joint reports and various shortcomings and reforms mentioned by the Special Committee. The court hears a litigation on public interest that was launched by the authorities in 2022 by investigating the problem of harvesting rainwater and especially during the monsoon. On May 5, the bank formed a special committee to conduct an earthly inspection of all 37 STPs.
