Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Jammu and Kashmir’s former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday to inquire about his health and wish the DPAP ‘a quick recovery. Azad, a former Union Minister and member of an overall delegation in the Gulf region, was admitted to hospital and is currently under medical supervision, BJP MP Baijayant Panda confirmed Tuesday. “Halfway through the tour of our delegation, Shri @Gulamnazad had to be hospitalized. He is stable under medical supervision and will undergo various tests and procedures,” Panda, which leads the delegation, said in a post on X. The exact location and hospital where the 76-year-old is former Jammu and Kashmir head of the minister is unknown. In a message about X, Azad expressed gratitude for the support he received, saying, “Blessed to share that, despite the extreme heat in Kuwait, I influence my health, through God’s grace and recover well. All test results are normal. Thank you very much for your concerns and prayers – that really means a lot!” Panda and Azad form part of one of the seven Meerparty delegations sent by India to visit 33 global capitals. The mission aims to involve the international community about Pakistan’s hostile designs and India’s response to terrorism, especially after the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 lives. The delegation has already visited Bahrain (from May 23) and Kuwait (from 25 May), with Azad actively participating in both countries in high -level meetings. Panda noted that Azad’s contributions were very impactful and expressed disappointment about his current inability to attend further commitments. “We will deeply miss his presence in Saudi Arabia and Algeria,” Panda notes after arriving with the delegation in Riyadh on Tuesday. Alongside Azad and Panda, the BJP members include Nishikant Dubey, Phangnon Konyak, Relha Sharma, Aimim’s Asaduddin Owaisi, nominated member Satnam Sandhu, and former foreign minister Harssh Shringla. During their visit to Saudi Arabia, the delegation is scheduled to meet a diverse series of political dignitaries, government officials, thinking leaders and members of the Indian diaspora. This diplomatic outreach follows India’s precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Kashmir in Pakistan on May 7 under Operation Sindoor. In retaliation, Pakistan launched attacks on Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10, to which India responded decisively.
