Remove ad just read news Prohibited cough syrup worth Rs 23 lakh recovered, businessman absconding Based on secret information, the team of Navagachia Excise Department took a major action last Saturday evening and recovered 115 cartoons of cough syrup containing banned codeine from a warehouse at Navagachia Garibdas Thakurbari. The total quantity of cough syrup recovered is said to be 1270 litres, the estimated market value of which is estimated to be around Rs 23 lakh 30 thousand. The head of the excise station said the Navgachia excise team received information that a large quantity of banned cough syrup was hidden in a warehouse in the Garibdas Thakurbari area. Based on the information, the team conducted a raid, but on seeing the police, Manjit Kumar, resident of Maniyamod, fled from the spot. During the raid, a large quantity of banned cough syrup was taken from the warehouse. It was told that accused Manjeet Kumar used to run this illegal business by taking the said warehouse on rent. Currently, the Excise Department team is continuously raiding possible places to arrest the accused. The department is also investigating where this shipment of prohibited drugs was brought and in which districts it would be supplied. According to departmental sources, the Excise Department has intensified the surveillance and intensive investigation campaign to stop the increasing smuggling of prohibited drugs in Navgachia area.
