Prabowo invited Premier Laos to work with TPPO-Narkoba

Jakarta-on the sidelines of the ASEAN 46th high-level (summit) conference, President Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with Laos Prime Minister (PM), Sonexay Siphandone. During the meeting, Prabowo invited Premier Siphandone to fight transnational affairs, ranging from human trafficking to drugs. The meeting of the two leaders took place in the meeting room, Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC), Malaysia. This meeting has become an important moment for the two leaders in strengthening bilateral relations and collaboration in various strategic sites. “Your Majesty can still remember my last visit to Laos. I was not president at the time, but as an elected president. I was very grateful for a very good welcome at that time,” Prabowo said Monday (5/26/2025) by the presidential secretariat bureau. Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia’s dedication to continuing within the Asean frame of Malaysians’ agility. “I would like to congratulate Lao PDR on his success with the guidance of Asean and continue to work together as part of Asean, and to support Malaysian leadership,” he said. Prabowo emphasized that the bilateral relationships between Indonesia and Laos are very well established. However, Prabowo assessed that there was a need for further efforts to increase the amount of trade in the two countries. “Our relationship is actually very good for years. But we need to realize that our trading volume is still low. Let’s look at ways to strengthen and improve this trade,” he said. Prabowo also has the readiness of Indonesia to work together in different potential sectors, including minerals, agriculture and fertilizer. Meanwhile, Prabowo has emphasized the importance of cooperation in combating transnational crimes, drug trafficking, human trafficking and fraud and online gambling. “I think if we work together, I’m sure it will be very useful for the two countries,” Prabowo said. The meeting took place in a close and constructive atmosphere. Like Asean member states, Indonesia and Laos have a joint vision to a peaceful, inclusive and prosperous area. In this bilateral meeting, Prabowo was accompanied by Sugiono, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso, Minister of Investment and downstream/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani, and Cabinet secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
