Jakarta – The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing a number of new cemeteries to overcome the limited location of public cemeteries (TPU). One of the areas prepared is a special TPU for the COVID-19 pandemic. DKI Governor Pramono Anung said that of the total 80 TPUs in Jakarta, 69 of them were full and could only be used with an overlapping system. One of the areas prepared as an alternative is a special TPU for COVID-19 corpses in Rorotan, North Jakarta. There are many burials for COVID whose families have not been identified, like the one in Rorotan,” said Pramono in the Kalibata area, South Jakarta/50/50, Friday (220/50). Meanwhile, Fajar Sauri, head of the DKI Jakarta City Parks and Forest Service, explained that several old cemetery areas that are no longer active are also being studied to be revived so that they can function again. Apart from that, cooperation with buffer areas is being considered to provide solutions for the availability of TPU land. “The DKI Provincial Government is considering cooperation with surrounding areas such as Depok and Tangerang. This scheme is said to be a medium-term solution to the limited TPU land in the capital,” Fajar said. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government considered proposals related to regional cooperation to solve the limited burial space. Fajar Sauri said that the proposal has been raised within the Jakarta Provincial Government and will be studied. “There is (a proposal regarding regional cooperation). The plan is already there. Later we have to review it again. Maybe if we can cooperate with the regions, we can set up a TPU outside Jakarta,” said Fajar in the Koja area, North Jakarta, on Thursday (10/23). (clock/rfs)
