Jakarta -DKI Jakarta -Governor Pramono Anung shared his experience in building a solid work team in the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov). Pramono emphasized that the most important key to leadership is the courage to accept input, not just surrounded by people who can only praise. “A team is strong if it’s not just filled with people who can just say,” Wow, that’s fine, sir. According to Pramono, strong teams are born of differences in views and the ability to discuss openly. He emphasized the importance of diversity in an organization, so that every decision made can be sharper and more realistic. Pramono also called a leadership style that relies too much on personal loyalty without paying attention to competence. He gave an example, since the leading DKI Jakarta, he did not bring a single ASN official from outside the Jakarta provincial government. “I never bring from the outside. Everyone I work with is from DKI. If we give them a chance, they can do it. It’s just a matter of how we build trust,” he said. Furthermore, Pramono emphasized that building a solid team needs example of the leadership. He said that discipline, efficiency and openness were the work culture he kept at the town hall. “When I say that the meeting starts at 08.00, it should start at 08.00. The leader comes first.
