President and Prime Minister expressed grief over Andhra Pradesh bus accident, announced assistance of Rs 2 lakh each
New Delhi, October 24 (IANS). President Draupadi Murmu, Vice President CP Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grief over the bus accident in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district. A private bus caught fire in Kurnool district on Friday morning, in which 11 people are said to have died so far. President Draupadi Murmu wrote on social media platform. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan also expressed his condolences, writing in an ‘X’ post, “Deeply saddened by the tragic bus fire accident in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the accident, saying, “My thoughts are with the affected people and their families at this difficult time. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” The Prime Minister also announced the compensation amount. He said, “An ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the families of each deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Rs 50,000 will be given to the injured.” The horrific accident took place near Chinnatekur village of Kallur mandal in Kurnool district when a private Volvo bus caught fire. The bus was traveling from Bengaluru to Hyderabad. Meanwhile, flames suddenly erupted in the bus. According to initial reports, there were around 40 passengers on the bus at the time of the incident. 12 passengers managed to escape with minor injuries by breaking the emergency door, but the bus was completely burnt to ashes. Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramaprasad Reddy reached the spot as soon as the news was received. Expressing deep sadness, he said: “The loss of so many lives is truly heartbreaking.” He directed the officials to take the injured to Kurnool Hospital and ensure all possible medical facilities. The minister also instructed the transport and rescue teams to carry out immediate relief and rescue operations at the accident site. –IANS DCH/ Share this story Tags
