Apple's China smartphone shipping fell by 9 percent in the first quarter of 2025 amid growing trade tension
New -Delhi, April 18 (IANS). According to the latest data from the world research firm IDC, Apple’s smartphone shipping in China fell 9 percent in the first quarter of 2025 and a year ago 9.8 million iPhones, which was more than 10.7 million a year ago. Apple was the only most important manufacturer of smartphones that decreased the shipping during this period, highlighting the growing battle in the world’s largest smartphone market. The company’s market share dropped to 13.7 percent in the last quarter to 13.7 percent. This is the seventh consecutive quarter of a decline for the US technical giant in China. In contrast, Chinese smartphone leader Xiaomi recorded a large 40 percent increase in the shipping and reached 13.3 million units. In general, the new government subsidy launched in January led to a 3.3 percent increase in the Chinese smartphone market during the quarter. Wong Wong, senior research manager of the customer apparatus at IDC Asia/Pacific, said the ongoing tension between the VS-China increased the challenges. Wong said: “The tensions between the US China have given disturbing news, but the good thing is that the first quarter growth gave the market players a better position to deal with any challenge in the rest of the year.” In the midst of Apple’s fight in China, the company focuses more on India than manufacturing and exporting. According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, Apple is investigating the possibility of increasing the export of iPhone from India to the US. Comparative India faces only 26 percent of the US fee, making it a more cost -effective option. Meanwhile, according to the industrial data last week, Apple India recorded a 60 percent increase in iPhone production from its local supply chain in the financial year last week, and reached a turnover of about Rs 1.89 Lakh Crore. According to the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav, iPhones worth Rs 1.5 Lakh Crore were exported from India during 2024-25. -Ians skt/abm
