Prof. in Aligarh. Faisal Devji and Dr. Abdul Qadeer received Sir Syed Excellence Award. Prof. Devji received the award for his contribution to South Asian studies and Dr. Kadir for his contribution in the field of education. This award, which also includes a cash sum, is given to those who carry forward the ideas and work of Sir Syed. Jagran Correspondent, Aligarh. Sir Syed Excellence Award from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) this year went to Beat Professor in Global and Imperial History at Balliol College, Oxford University. Prof. Devji is considered among the leading scholars of South Asian studies, Islam, globalization and ethics. Prof. Born in Tanzania, Devji has taught at prestigious institutions such as Yale, Cornell, Harvard and the University of Chicago. His influential essay Apologetic Modernity focuses on the engagement of 19th century Muslims with modernity, particularly in the context of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and the Aligarh Movement. Sir Syed Excellence Award at the national level will be given to Dr. Abdul Qadeer is given. They will be honored for their contribution to the education of economically weaker communities. Founded in 1989, the group now provides education to more than 20 thousand students in 13 Indian states. More than 500 teachers work in the institutions of this group. The group runs schools, pre-university and degree colleges.
