Protection of vulnerable groups, Ministry of Social Affairs works with LPSK to strengthen 12-PAS services
Jakarta – The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) has agreed with the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to strengthen synergy in dealing with social problems, including the services of 12 Social Attention Recipients (12-PAS). 12-PAS covers community groups that are the targets of social welfare programmes. This group consists of vulnerable children, people with disabilities, neglected elderly, low-income people and disaster victims. Then, those who need special confirmation are prisoners, victims of violence, victims of drugs and HIV/AIDS, people with social problems, vulnerable women and the poor. “Part of 12-PAS, including victims of violence, those with low income such as homeless people and beggars, people with disabilities, elderly, vulnerable children, children who are victims of violence, there are 26 types that we formulated, we simplified it to 12-PAS,” Saifullah, Minister of Social Media, said in his statement on Friday. Furthermore, he explained that the 12-PAS service was part of President Prabowo Subianto’s goal to make vulnerable groups happy. “Our goal is to make young people happy. They can laugh, they can smile. That was his (President Prabowo’s) statement when he was inaugurated. So who should make them smile? These are the people who need social services, there is 12-PAS,” he said. Gus Ipul added, before providing services, assessment results are needed as a basis to determine interventions according to needs. “Now what condition he’s in, it’s all an assessment, if he really needs additional, we can add, as long as the assessment, if he needs housing, we’re ready,” he explained. For information, the Ministry of Social Affairs has a Technical Implementation Unit (UPT), namely Integrated Centers and Centers spread over 31 points throughout Indonesia. At this location, 12-PAS receives social rehabilitation services through the ATENSI (Social Rehabilitation Assistance) program using a residential, family-based or community-based approach. In addition to receiving social rehabilitation services, 12-PAS will also be trained in independence through an empowerment program. “Medical rehabilitation is the same as social rehabilitation. If it is considered clear, then empowerment, empowerment if he goes to school, then empowerment should go to school, if he needs training, then training,” said Gus Ipul. Gus Ipul also invited LPSK to work together so that social problems can be handled more optimally. “We need cooperation, but the cooperation will be made more concrete later with the PKS (Cooperation Agreement),” he said. Meanwhile, Susilaningtyas welcomed cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs in dealing with social problems.
