Few New Zealand players arrive in Chennai to prepare for the World Cup Championships

Chennai, August 10 (PTI), with the World Women’s Cricket Championships, less than two months away, has arrived several important New Zealand players in Chennai to increase their preparations for the global event, jointly offered by India and Sri Lanka. Seven cricketers in the ten -member team have been centrally contracted and will undergo a two -week camp at Chennai Super Kings Academy here under head coach Ben Sawyer and assistant coach Craig McMillan. The seven contracted players include seam-allrounder Jess Kerr, young opener Georgia Plimmer and Allrounder Brooke Halliday, while Izzy Sharp, Flora Devonshire and Emma McLeod are the upcoming players. The White Ferns is the current T20 World Championship Holders of Women and wants to obtain a rare double by winning the prestigious event, which begins from 30 September. “It is currently winter in New Zealand, there is no cricket and we are out of the World Cup for almost two months. To have the preparation time in India, we were able to bring seven contracted players and then three of our players who are of interest,” Sawyer was quoted by Espncricinfo. “So, the girls we think will also play a lot of cricket in India in the future.” Management also takes the advice of High Performance Sport New Zealand and a dietitian on how to best acclimatize at the subcontinental conditions. “We’ve actually tried to practice really hard over the past five days, and I think in a way not to recover, just try to do it naturally and let your bodies adapt to the conditions,” Sawyer said. “And now we are playing the three games, we will try to recover very well. But yes, we actually exposed ourselves to the heat as much as possible. ‘ After training in India, the group flies to Dubai for the duck against England and the warm-up before the Women’s Cricket World Championships against South Africa and India in Bengaluru. “It’s very beneficial and more this year, because we have had no official matches since February,” Sawyer added. ‘To get these three one-day matches in Chennai, to get two or three games in Dubai against England, a very strong opposition, will be great, and then we also get the two World Cup warm-up games. These are about seven or eight games we will get in similar circumstances. Yes, it’s just great for us. ‘ New Zealand opens their campaign against Trans-Tasman opponents Australia in Indore on October 1.
