Amritsar, October 24 (IANS). Migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are worried about going to their homes because of Chhath Puja. The crowd keeps increasing in all the trains going from Amritsar in Punjab to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Workers face difficulties in returning home. The crowd at the Amritsar railway station has been steadily increasing for the past two days. People don’t get tickets on the train. Even after this, people travel by trains. But migrants express dissatisfaction due to lack of tickets and travel facilities. Speaking to news agency IANS, Migrant Community President Mahesh Verma said, “Chhath Puja is the biggest religious festival for the people of Bihar and UP. In such a situation, the government should have made advance preparations and arranged for additional trains. Thousands of migrants are stranded on the platforms due to non-availability of tickets and their families are in trouble with tickets.” He said that migrant organizations have immediately demanded additional trains from the Railway Administration and the Central Government so that people can reach their homes safely and respectfully and celebrate Chhath Puja with devotion and joy. Passenger Arjun Yadav, while talking to IANS, said that a few people want to leave for their homes, but the booking of all the trains is full. Women and children face huge crowds and crowd into common compartments. Incidents of fighting also came to light in many places. Passenger Aresh Patel said that currently only “Jan Nayak Express” is available to go from Amritsar to Bihar due to which the situation is becoming uncontrollable due to the increase in the number of passengers. At the same time, additional staff have been deployed at railway stations for safety and order, but due to crowd pressure, passengers are facing problems. The migrants demanded the Railways to run more trains and simplify the booking process. –IANS SAK/ABM Share this story Tags
