This action was done on charges of violating the Money Wauning (PMLA) Prevention Act. The ED started this investigation based on two FIRs filed by the Vigilance Bureau, which is registered against the former Punjab police officer and others. The investigation revealed that Ashish Kapoor, when he was placed in Amritsar Central Jail in 2016, allegedly recovered money and gold jewelry from two people who were present in the police. This money and jewelry belonged to those people and their families. In this way, unbelieving assets deserved to earn illegal assets worth Rs 1.29 crore. Kapoor is also an accused in another case of disproportionate. He has allegedly earned more moving and immovable assets in Chandigarh and Mohali over the past five years. These properties are now attached by the ED. He was arrested in October 2022 and is currently on bail. In January 2025, the state government allowed the Vigilance Bureau to prosecute him. According to the report, Kapoor bought a residential plot of 507.5 square meters in sector-88 from Mohali for Rs 90.16 Lakh and built a large two-story modern facilities between 2020 and 2022.
