Questions raised over Abhishek Banerjee’s Diamond Harbor win, Amit Malviya claims ‘election looting’

Kolkata, October 19 (IANS). BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya has raised serious questions over the record victory of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee from the Diamond Harbor seat. He claimed that this victory was not the result of public support, but of ‘organized election looting’. In the official ‘X’ post, Malviya said that the revelations of former presiding officer Swapan Mandal have made it clear that this ‘record victory’ is actually the result of systemic fraud. He said that this case not only questions the election process but also exposes TMC’s open disrespect towards democracy. According to Swapan Mandal, voters of the opposition party were systematically disenfranchised during the election in Diamond Harbour. According to Mandal’s statement, these voters were prevented from voting, many were kept locked in their homes and those who reached the booth were forcibly thrown out. In the EVM machines, black tape was pasted on the buttons of the opposition candidates, due to which they could not be pressed and only the TMC button worked. Proxy voting and fake voting also took place on a large scale. Votes were cast in the names of dead persons and migrants who had gone out to work. Amit Malviya asked that if everything is transparent, then why is Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee against the ‘Special Intensive Review (SIR)’ process of the Election Commission? According to Malviya, Swapan Mandal has revealed that a large number of dead, absent and doubtful voters in areas like Diamond Harbor have been included in the list, thereby artificially increasing TMC’s vote share. Malviya said that if the electoral roll is completely cleared by SIR, the base of TMC’s false lead will be destroyed. He claimed that this is why Mamata Banerjee is opposing the process as it will shake the roots of her ‘lootocracy’. Amit Malviya said that Diamond Harbor is not an isolated case but a model of TMC’s strategy for 2026 assembly elections. He said that for the restoration of democracy it is necessary to end this ‘booty model’. Malviya said, “If democracy in true sense is to be saved in Bengal, a transparent and impartial Scrutiny of the Electoral Roll (SIR) must be ensured so that the real mandate of the people of Bengal can be revealed.” Through the official ‘X’ post, he called it a struggle to restore the democratic dignity of the people of Bengal. –IANS VKU/AS
