Rajasthan: Congress high command held an important meeting with state leaders regarding organizational elections.
Jaipur, October 24 (IANS). Congress party is again in the news in Rajasthan politics as the announcement of new district presidents of the organization is awaited. Sources said the district level report has reached Delhi and a final decision is expected at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters soon. On Friday, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal held detailed discussions in Delhi from morning till night to finalize the appointment of district presidents of Rajasthan. Rajasthan in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, State Congress Committee (PCC) President Govind Singh Dotasara and Opposition Leader Tikaram Julie attended the meeting. The meeting focused on balancing caste representation, political influence and regional comparisons while shortlisting names from the districts. Sources said consensus between Randhawa, Dotasara and Julie will be important for the final selection. Dotasara and Julie also held a separate strategy meeting with Randhawa at his Delhi residence to review district-level feedback and potential candidates. The compiled report has now been sent to Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, whose approval will come before the official announcement of the list. Meanwhile, many contenders for the post of district president have been camping in Delhi since Diwali. Their presence is clearly visible in hotels and Rajasthan State Guest House as lobbying intensified through meetings and political contacts. Some candidates also use festival tours and Diwali like to get recommendations. The contest is particularly tough in those districts where the Congress does not have sitting MPs or MLAs. However, the picture is clearer in some areas, such as Sikar, where Dotasara influence is greater; Jhunjhunu, where MP Brijendra Singh Ola has support; Jodhpur, where former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot leads; And Tonk and Bharatpur, where Sachin Pilot and Bhanwar Jitendra Singh dominate. With hundreds of candidates in 50 districts, this reshuffle in the Congress organization has generated a lot of curiosity. Party insiders say the final list could be announced anytime, which would be a major step in the organizational revival of the Congress in Rajasthan. –IANS MS/DKP
