Rajasthan: Government’s ‘Pure food, attack adulteration’ campaign tightens its grip on adulterers in Bhilwara

Bhilwara, October 18 (IANS). In Rajasthan, the Bhilwara Health Department team took a major action on Saturday and seized more than five hundred kilos of suspected adulterated mawa and forty kilos of desi ghee. The team took this action near the city’s Landmark Hotel as part of the ongoing intensive campaign against counterfeiting. Inspector Ashok Yadav’s team conducted this raid under the instructions of District Collector Jasmeet Singh Sandhu and under the supervision of CMHO Dr. Sajeev Sharma. Inspector Yadav said that secret information was received about a large consignment of adulterated mawa near the Landmark Hotel. The team that reached the spot found 13 plastic bags in abandoned condition. During checking, the packets were found to be filled with fake mawa. The team immediately seized this large quantity of mawa and ghee and sent its samples to the laboratory for quality testing. At the same time, during the action, it could not be established who the owner of Mawa and Ghee is and where this consignment comes from. The department has spread the message through the media that if any person does not claim it within two hours, the seized material will be destroyed and strict legal action will be taken in terms of the Food Safety and Standards Act. After this major action in Bhilwara, there is a stir among the dealers of adulterated mawa and desi ghee. The consistent and strict action of the Health Department has made it clear that a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against counterfeiting is being adopted. The department is now waiting for the laboratory report of the seized mawa and ghee samples. Once the report confirms forgery, a heavy fine will be imposed on the owner. –IANS MS/SCH Share this story Tags
