Rajkumar Hirani calls himself 'big fan' by Satyajit Ray
Kolkata (Western Bengal) [India]October 5 (Ani): Criticism Award -winning director Rajkumar Hirani expressed his deep love for legendary late director Satyajit Ray and said he would watch Ray’s films for ‘weeks and months’ during his time at film school. Rajkumar Hirani attended a session in the Merchant’s Chamber of Commerce & Industry in West Bengals, along with film critic Rajeev Masand. On the sidelines of the event, Rajkumar Hirani said he is a big fan of Satyajit Ray’s films. While talking to the media, Rajkumar Hirani said: “I went to a film school, and there were weeks and months that we would see (satyajit) ray films, and we are all big fans. Not a single soul in this country would not admire Ray’s films.” Satyajit Ray, the legendary Indian filmmaker, was born on May 2, 1921 in Kolkata. His most prominent works include the apu trilogy, Jalsaghar, Charulata, Goopy Gyne Bagha Bynne, Pather Panchali and Shatranj Ke Khiladi. He was also a screenwriter, documentary filmmaker, writer, essayist, lyricist, magazine editor, illustrator, calligraph and composer. Ray has received numerous major awards during his career, including 32 Indian National Film Awards, a number of awards during international film festivals and awards ceremonies, and an academy award in 1992.
