Ravana was shot with bullets, people still follow the 5000 year old tradition

Ravana Dahan takes place all over the country. Each area has its own tradition of burning Ravana. Meanwhile, Dussehra is celebrated in a unique way in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. Ravana is not burnt but shot. This tradition, which is more than 5,000 years old, is celebrated at the Garhbor Charbhuja Nath Temple. Unlike other places, a wooden effigy filled with coconuts is not burnt here. Here a stone image of Ravana is made, which survives gun bullets. On this special occasion, Aarti is performed in the temple at 4:00 PM. After that, Thakurji’s procession comes out to the beat of drums and cymbals. The procession reaches the Imli Chowk Balaji Temple of the city. After the worship of weapons, the unique killing of Ravana, weapons are worshiped with complete rituals at Imli Chowk. After this, the procession takes the idol of Shaligramji to a deserted place. There, temple security personnel protect the stone image of Ravana from bullets. The pot held in Ravana’s navel is broken by bullets. Then the youth there attack the effigy with stones. People come from far and wide to see this unique Ravana Dahan. With the return visit of Charbhuja Nath, the procession returns to the temple after killing Ravana. Here opens the darshan of Charbhuja Nath. The enthusiasm of the devotees is worth seeing. This tradition is not only a symbol of faith but also gives the message of the victory of good over evil.
