Reddit has just declared the most ‘insanely terrible’ Christmas movies ever made

Not all Christmas films were created equal and Reddit users have been sharing their picks for the most ‘insanely terrible’ ones ever made
Some Christmas movies become absolute classics watched year after year, whereas others fall by the wayside never to be watched again.
Many people consider 1946’s It’s A Wonderful Life the ‘greatest Christmas film’ ever made. The film stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a businessman who decides he wants to end his life on Christmas Eve. His guardian angel hears his dark thoughts and decides to show him what the world would have looked like had he not existed, including all of the lives he inadvertently touched.
Meanwhile more recent films such as 2023’s The Holdovers have quickly gathered a die-hard fan base. The story follows a prep school teacher forced to watch over a handful of students with nowhere to go over Christmas, and boasts a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes critical score of 97 percent.
Now Reddit users have been sharing their picks for the worst festive films they have ever seen ranging from the boring to the downright bizarre.
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964)
It might sound like an AI-generated film title, but this was released way before the dawn of Chat GPT. The 1964 film follows a group of aliens on Mars who decide to kidnap Santa Claus as otherwise there is nobody else on the planet who can give their children presents.
“Santa Claus Conquers the Martians is a classic. This has to be what you’re looking for! Lol,” shared one Reddit user, as another, offering their thoughts on the film, wrote: “I found it closer to just straight bad than funny bad myself.”
The film is currently available to watch on Amazon Prime and currently has an audience score of just 27 percent on the movie review site Rotten Tomatoes.
Santa With Muscles (1996)
Despite its dire ratings, Santa With Muscles boasts some instantly recognizable names in the cast including Mila Kunis and Hulk Hogan.
The story follows health tycoon Blake (Hulk Hogan) who loses his memory and becomes convinced he is Santa Claus. With his newfound generous spirit, he helps to stop an evil scientist from taking over an orphanage.
Interestingly it was produced by Jordan Belfort, the former stockbroker who inspired the Wolf of Wall Street movie. One Reddit user described it as “abominable, but entertaining.” The film is currently available to stream for free via Plex.
Holiday in Handcuffs (2007)
The 2007 rom-com Holiday in Handcuffs follows a waitress who kidnaps one of her customers so she has a date for the holidays. Melissa Joan Hart of Sabrina the Teenage Witch fame stars.
Highlighting the film, a Reddit user said: “Holiday in Handcuffs is a must see for just how insane the plot is. I look forward to watching it every year.”
For those desperate to watch it, it is currently available to stream on Disney+.
Jingle All The Way (1996)
It would appear that 1996 was an all-round bad year for Christmas films. Hot on the heels of Santa With Muscles comes Jingle All The Way. The film follows Arnold Schwarzenegger as mattress salesman Howard who is determined to get his son the year’s must-have toy: a Turbo Man action figure.
A Reddit user declared: “I was surprised Jingle All The Way wasn’t already on here. Maybe this falls into the so bad its good category, it does have the great Phil Hartman in it. But Arnie not killing things and Sinbad, well just being Sinbad. Makes for a pretty awful movie.”
Opinion was divided over its inclusion on the list however, as one fan described it as “the poster boy for so good it’s bad”, adding: “It’s an objectively horrible movie, but it’s so horrible that you have to laugh, which then circles it back to making itself good.”
The film can currently be streamed for free on Channel 4’s catch up service.
