Jakarta – The Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development visited the Groundwater Irrigation Network (JIAT) in Rejomulyo Village, Jati Agung District, South Lampung Regency some time ago. This visit also becomes a forum for the community to convey their aspirations and input to the government. Deputy for Basic Infrastructure Coordination, Rachmat Kaimuddin, emphasized that food self-sufficiency is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programs. For this reason, supporting infrastructure is needed, such as the improvement of irrigation networks, including JIAT. “From the beginning, Mr. President Prabowo has said that what is hoped for is self-sufficiency in food. In order to achieve this, infrastructure is needed to support it. That is why we ensure that the development carried out really has an impact and is able to produce more crops,” says Rachmat in a written statement, Sunday (19/10/2025). PAGE TO CONTINUE CONTENT Rachmat disclosed that the JIAT well in Rejomulyo Village has a depth of 120 meters, a network length of 1,500 meters, with 15 units of distribution boxes. The total service area increased from 20 hectares to 25 hectares. The pump is powered by a 35 KVA generator engine and 23 KVA PLN electricity. On this occasion, Rachmat appreciated farmers and all parties who contributed to the success of the water resource infrastructure program to support food self-sufficiency. “To become rice, to become rice, of course, it really depends on the farmers’ hard work. Besides water, seeds and fertilizers, it contains the sweat of all of you, which makes it possible for all of us to eat well,” explained Rachmat. Gain appreciation from Village Heads and Farmers. The presence of the JIAT well provided real benefits to the community. The head of Rejomulyo Village, Tushandoyo, said that previously farmers only relied on rainwater. But now crop yields have increased significantly. “Before there was JIAT, farmers only hoped for rain from Allah SWT. If the rain was heavy, we could plant. If not, there would be a lot of losses. After there was JIAT, we were very grateful that we could harvest up to three times,” he explained. Similarly, the chairman of the Rejomulyo Village Gapoktan, Sariyun, said that previously farmers could only harvest once a year due to lack of water. However, increasing crop yields has a direct impact on increasing farmers’ incomes. He also expressed full support for government programmes, especially the development of JIAT. “Before, before there was a well, it was done only once. After there was a well, JIAT could use a generator twice. Now it uses electricity because the operation is very cheap, it can be used three times,” he explained.
