Retail inflation in India reached nearly six years low in March
New -Delhi, April 15 (IANS). Retail inflation in India dropped to 3.34 percent in March. This is the lowest level of retail inflation since August 2019. This information was given by the Ministry of Statistics on Tuesday. During March, the food inflation delayed to 2.69 percent. This is the lowest level after November 2021. The official statement issued by the ministry said that the strong decline in inflation and food inflation during March 2025 is mainly due to the decline in vegetables, eggs, pulses, meat and fish, grains and milk prices. The food products whose prices dropped the largest in March, including ginger (-38.11 percent), tomatoes (-34.96 percent), cauliflower (-25.99 percent), cumin (-25.86 percent) and garlic (-25.22 percent) are included. Housing inflation was 3.03 percent annually. That was 2.91 percent in February. The housing index contains only urban areas. According to the data, fuel and energy inflation rates were 1.48 percent in March. While the education rate was 3.98 percent. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said last week that retail inflation in the country has decreased in recent months. The Reserve Bank’s monetary policy committee reduced its forecast of inflation from 4.2 percent to 4 percent for 2025-26. He further said that it is expected to bring permanent mitigation in the food inflation, along with the strong incoming Kharif, permanent mitigation in the food inflation. The RBI Governor said the fall in crude oil prices is a favorable sign for inflation prospects.
