Richardson ISD parents demand answers after school violence – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A mother wants accountability from Richardson ISD after her son was stabbed Wednesday morning by another student with a paring knife.

Following the incident with her son, the district also revealed another student was caught on campus with a firearm in a separate incident on the same day.

Lonnieshi Dollarhide spoke to us at Parkland Hospital, where her son JaeShon is recovering from his injuries. It started with an early morning phone call.

“My phone rang, and it was my son. And he said, ‘Mom, get to the school, I’ve been stabbed.’ I said what?” Dollarhide said.

JaeShon had been stabbed in the neck by another student while riding the school bus to Lake Highlands High School. Dollarhide said she rushed to the campus.

“They were applying pressure to his neck,” she said. “And I kind of got hysterical and then I had to bring myself back, and I said, ‘What happened?’”

Her son told her two students were fighting on the bus, and that he intervened after a girl was pushed.

“He gets off the bus and all of his friends are like bro, you’re bleeding, you’re bleeding, and he looked down and there was blood all over him,” said Dollarhide.

Dallas Police released a statement to NBC 5:

“On October 22, 2025, at about 9 am, Dallas Police responded to a stabbing call in the 9400 block of Church Road. The preliminary investigation determined that a suspect stabbed the victim in the neck. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the victim to the hospital in stable condition. The suspect was arrested at the scene. This is an ongoing investigation.

Dollarhide said parents received a notification from the Lake Highlands principal close to 1:30 pm

NBC 5 obtained that notification, which also revealed that, in addition to the stabbing, a student was caught on campus with a firearm in a separate incident.

The notification to parents reads:

Dear Lake Highlands High School Parents:

It is our commitment to communicate with you when any situation impacting our students takes place. I am writing to inform you that there have been two separate incidents that occurred involving several students; one on campus and one off campus.

Based on a tip, a student was searched today, and a firearm was found in a backpack on campus. The student was immediately arrested and is facing a felony charge of unlawfully carrying a firearm on campus. The situation was addressed quickly, and it was not necessary to implement a schoolwide security protocol. We are grateful for the student who saw something and said something so our safety and security team could respond immediately.

The other incident involves a student carrying a pairing knife while on the bus en route to school this morning. During this situation another student sustained an injury that was not immediately apparent until the student arrived at school. Emergency Medical Services were promptly contacted, and the student was transported to the hospital to receive appropriate medical attention.

Both student offenders will face charges according to the felonies committed and expulsion under the RISD Student Code of Conduct.

As you may be aware, our administrative team has the ability to periodically and randomly utilize portable metal detectors and detection wands as a deterrent to prohibited weapons on campus, and we will continue to utilize those tools moving forward.

We also have supportive measures for our students, including opportunities to visit their counselor to allow them to express their feelings about these incidents and/or concerns about campus safety.

Ensuring a safe school environment for students and staff is a top priority at all times. We are currently working closely with district administrators to continue to investigate both of these matters thoroughly and will take any additional necessary actions based on our findings.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Kerry Jones
Principal

Dollarhide is relieved her son survived, but said she’s unsure about his future at the school.

“Why did the school district wait so late to notify parents?” she said. “I’m a little worried because he still has to be at school. His safety is my biggest concern.”

In the letter to parents obtained by NBC 5, Richardson ISD said both offenders in the two separate incidents will face charges according to the felonies committed, and expulsion under the district code of conduct.
