SBI aims to improve gender diversity, to increase the female workforce to 30 pc by 2030

New -Delhi, October 12 (PTI) State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, has devised a strategy to increase gender diversity, with the aim of increasing its female workforce within five years. “When we talk about the frontline staff, women are almost 33 percent, but if you see it, they are responsible for 27 percent of the total workforce. So, we will work to improve this percentage, so that diversity is further improved,” said Kishore Kumar Poludasu, Chief Development Officer (CDO) (CDO). The bank is taking measures to bridge the gap and reach its medium -term goal of 30 percent women in his workforce, he said. SBI has a total staff of over 2.4 Lakh, one of the highest in any organization in the country and the highest in the banking industry. He further said that the bank is committed to creating a workplace where women flourish at all levels and through targeted programs, promotes SBI leadership, balance between work and life and dignity at work. Poludasu, who emphasizes some of the women-centric measures taken by the bank, said the bank offers Creche allowance for working mothers, managed Family Connect program and a training program to help female employees return from maternity, sabbatical or extensive sick leave. In addition, he said: ‘Empower Her’ is a flagship initiative to identify women, mentor and groom for leadership through structured leadership labs and coaching sessions to increase female representation in leadership roles and build a strong pipeline of future top women. With the recognition of the unique health needs of female employees, the bank has set focused programs such as breast cancer screenings and cervical cancer, nutritional grants for pregnant staff and the vaccination of the cervical cancer. Many of such initiatives are kept in mind with the women and girls working in the bank, he added. He further said the bank is committed to nurturing an inclusive, safe and safe environment for its female employees to unleash their full potential. This is shown by the fact that SBI has more than 340 branches that are exclusively staffed by staff of the women across the country and that the number will increase in the future. Women’s employees are well represented on all geographical areas and hierarchical levels, reflecting the bank’s commitment to inclusivity, he said. The bank has a dynamic and competent pool of IT specialist officials who ensure the security, efficiency and innovation of banking operations.
