School students in Delhi pledge to live a drug-free life

New Delhi, October 24 (IANS). More than 500 students and teachers of Delhi’s Sanskriti School on Friday pledged to lead a drug-free life. Briefing, an official said that this program organized with the aim of creating a drug-free school environment was part of the collaboration between the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Delhi Regional Unit and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The official said under the NCB-CBSE MoU, more than 100 schools across the country have been identified to start similar programmes. The campaign adopts a hub-and-spoke model to ensure wide reach to students, teachers and parents. The initiative reflects the shared commitment to building a drug-free India by empowering young minds through awareness, education and community participation, the official said in a statement. Dr. Anees C, Deputy Director, IRS, NCB, addressed the occasion and highlighted the multi-dimensional efforts of the agency, including enforcement and capacity building. During this time, students and teachers are requested to remain vigilant and active for the safety of the community. He also encouraged the school community to actively promote the NCB Helpline (Toll Free Number – 1933) to provide information and seek help related to drug abuse and trafficking. Neeti Shankar, Joint Director, CBSE, outlined the wellness initiatives taken by the Board, including the CBSE-NCB MoU, Counseling Hub-and-Spoke Model, Parenting Calendar, Career Guideline Dashboard and the CBSE-AIIMS MAT programme, all of which are designed to enhance psychosocial wellbeing and holistic student development.
