Second National Arbitration Conference 2025: Discussion on the challenges and future of mediation in the second day Interactive session
Bhubaneswar, September 28 (IANS). One of the most important legal ceremonies of the country, the ‘second arbitration conference 2025’, was held in Bhubaneswar. The theme of the second day of the conference was the theme of session 1- ‘Mediation: Challenges and the way aborty’. The session is chaired by Justice Suryakant, Judge, Supreme Court of India, while co-chairmanship to Justice Vipul M. Pancholi, Judge, Supreme Court and Judge MM Srivastava, Chief Justice, High Court in Madras. Four main topics were discussed in this important session, including arbitration, profession, government and mediation, public trust and access to awareness and mediation and access to justice. Justice Surya Kant, who is also the chairman of the National Legal Services Authority, while addressing the conference, said about 2.5 lakh intermediaries in the country are needed, but currently only 13.000 intermediaries are available. He told that structured arbitration is the greatest need for today. The session highlights the role of mediation in strengthening the mechanism of dispute resolution in India and said it is very important to gain professional recognition, policy support and the confidence of the public to the mediators. In this session, Justice M. Sundar (Chief Justice, Supreme Court in Manipur), Justice R Suresh Kumar (Madras High Court), Justice A. Muhammad Mustaq (Kerala Supreme Court), Justice Sachin Dutta (Delhi High Court), Justice Harinath Nunepalli (Andhra Pradesh), also participated in their view. The entire session was hosted by George Pothan, who encouraged the meaningful dialogue between the participants.
