Semarang city government maximizes 25 pumps to speed up flood retreat

Jakarta – The Semarang City Government continues to accelerate flood management by optimizing dozens of water pumps at affected points. Mayor Agustina Wileng emphasized that all personnel went directly to the field to speed up the withdrawal of the water and restore residents’ activities. Till Thursday (23/10) evening, a number of officers have been deployed to flood areas, including the Kaligawe area, Gayamsari district. They take turns to monitor the water level and ensure that the pump functions optimally. Agustina explained that the heavy rain that fell on the city of Semarang in the last few days caused a fairly rapid rise in water in a number of areas. This condition is a challenge in itself in flood management. This effort involves the River Basin Center (BBWS), Central Java Province Pusdataru Service, Semarang City DPU and BPBD to ensure optimal flood management. “Because the pump in the Waru area is under construction, we are trying to move the Kandang Kebo pump to Waru so that the water flows directly into the East flood channel. Apart from that, we continue to actively coordinate to deal with flooding as a whole so that people can return to normal activities,” he said in a written statement, Friday (24/10/2025). Agustina explained that flood management was carried out based on regional divisions, such as Sringin, Terboyo, Tenggang and Pasar Waru, the result of communication and coordination between agencies. A total of 25 pumps from various parties have been prepared with a capacity of between 250 and 2,000 liters per second. If everything functions optimally, the total pumping capacity is estimated to reach 25,000 liters per second. “From stationary (or existing) pumps to portable pumps, we have placed them at designated points in the four areas. Not only do they all belong to the Semarang City DPU, there is assistance from the Semarang City BPBD, Pusdataru, BBWS Pemali Juana, and even additional ones from BBWS Serayu Opak, BBWS Cimanuk CisangWS. Solo,” said he added. Agustina instructed all levels, including sub-district heads and village heads, to proactively monitor conditions in the field, not just wait for reports. He emphasized the importance of a quick and comprehensive response by going directly to provide services to residents affected by the flood. “The main priority is clearly the safety and comfort of residents. So, everyone needs to move quickly,” he concluded. Also watch the video “Floods in Dayeuhkolot never end, residents give up” here: (akn/ega)
