Senate President Akpabio claims retreat, apology from Senatore Natasha, Abbo; Threaten legal action
According to Akpabio, he remains fearless by what he described as a ‘deliberate campaign of misinformation’, which characterizes the statements as part of a coordinated smear campaign. The Senate President Godswill Akpabio denied any offense in response to the allegations made by the Senators Natasha Akpoti-Ouduaghan and Elisa Abbo. He also demanded withdrawals and formal excuse from both senators. This attitude was communicated in a statement released on Friday by his special adviser on media and publicity, Eseme Eyiboh. According to Akpabio, he remains fearless by what he described as a ‘deliberate campaign of misinformation’, which characterizes the statements as part of a coordinated smear campaign. The statement, entitled “false and malicious allegations targeting the president of the Senate,” reads: “As he spoke in Kogi State on April 1, 2025, the suspended Senator Akpoti -uduaghan falsely claimed that Senator Akpabio recruited former Governor Yahaya Bello to kill her. manufacturing. ” “Her recurring pattern of false accusations – including similar claims in 2019 and 2023 against other public figures – is a worrying exploitation of victim narratives for personal and political gain,” the statement added. The statement was also rejected as false Akpoti-Outuaghan’s allegations that his rights were being denied, and made it clear that the Senate’s rights were being processed administratively and not at the discretion of the president of the Senate. “These individuals, possibly backed by hidden interests, appear united in a desperate attempt to undermine the Senate and its leadership,” the statement continued. “Regardless of the need for legal correction, formal letters that withdraw, apology and compensation are underway,” he added. This latest rebuttal follows an earlier statement also issued by Eyiboh on Thursday, following the claims made by Senator Elisha Abbo during an interview on Arise News TV. Abbo has accused Akpabio of running the Senate like a ‘personal empire’ and the removal of five senators, including itself, orchestrating. “It’s there in the newspapers,” Abbo said. He also claimed that after his removal, including salaries, grants and an official vehicle, he was unfairly denied – despite a court ruling that his tenure declared from the beginning. “If any of ABBO’s demands for payment have not reached the desk of the Senate President, it is because they do not meet legal standards – not because of any personal or political vendetta,” the statement clarified. “It is a pity that, instead of accepting the consequences of his legal and political failures, Abbo still uses the media theater and reckless finger-pointing.” Eyiboh said: “Akpabio remains focused on the noble task of nation-building, which offers purposeful leadership in the Senate and reinforces democratic institutions-especially the independence of the judiciary. He will not be deduced by the incidents of individuals who want to rewrite history.” “We call on Mr. Abbo to reflect deeply, respect the rule of law and focus on rebuilding the trust of his voters if he hopes to return to public life. The democracy of Nigeria can only thrive if his actors show maturity, responsibility and a continued respect for the truth,” the statement concluded.
