Massive flash floods amid heavy rain in Pakistan killed 200 people, hundreds missing: video

At least 214 people were killed and several others were injured, as heavy rain has hit different regions of Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir over the past 36 hours, officials confirmed on Friday, PTI reports. The majority of deaths were reported from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, where intense rainfall led to flash floods across various districts. The flooding also caused significant damage to infrastructure, destroyed numerous buildings and disrupted transport by blocking large roads, including Karakoram Highway and Baltistan Highway in Gilgit-Baltistan, located in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (Pok). At least 198 people, including 14 women and 12 children, have died and several have remained, while flash floods have caused a devastation over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the past 24 hours, a provincial disaster management (PDMA) spokesman said. A province of Richtelijn ordered all hospitals to set up flood control rooms to ensure the ongoing availability of medicine and the proper operation of medical equipment amid the ongoing crisis. In Gilgit-Baltistan, located in Kashmir (Pok) in Pakistan, Flash floods in the Ghizer district claimed eight lives, with two individuals still missing, officials reports. The flooding caused extensive damage, destroying more than a dozen homes, vehicles, schools and healthcare facilities. Large highways, including the highways Karakoram and Baltistan, have been blocked at several points. The Neelum Valley in the Northeast also experienced serious disruption. Tourists in the area were moved to safer places, with more than 600 campers near Ratti Gali Lake advised to stay on site after cutting off access to the road. Flash floods also swept away two bridges over Lawat Nullah, while the swollen Jagran nullah destroyed another bridge in Kundal Shahi. In Jhelum Valley, a cloud over Palhot caused a flash flow that damaged part of the road network and left dozens of vehicles stranded. As the water level of the Neelum River rises rapidly, the authorities have issued flood warnings and prepared to start the Riverside communities. In the Muzaffarabad district, a devastating landslide in the town of Sarli Sacha struck a home and buried six family members who were dead. (With input from PTI)
