A beloved Star Wars Villain is finally getting their own solo project more than two decades after first being introduced to the franchise. Announced at the Ongoing Star Wars Celebration, Disney Revealed That Sith Lord and Dual-Lightsaber-Wielding Dathomirian Zabrak, Darth Maul, Will Lead His Own Animated Show In Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.
Announced to a celebratory crowd during the final moments of the panel spotlighting the 20th anniversary of Lucasfilm Animation, the first footage from Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord was shown, and revealed that the animated series will be set after Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The series will follow maul as he trains an apprentice and “plots to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the empire.”

Actor Sam Whitewer, who has voiced the Sith Lord Several Times before and has now become synonymous with the character, will reprise the role for Maul: Shadow Lord. Whitewer was in attendance at Star Wars Celebration, taking to the stage to reveal his return. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is now in Production and is scheduled to debut on Disney+ in 2026.
Darth Maul Remains A ‘Star Wars’ Fan-favorite
Despite Being Sliced in Half at Obi-Wan Kenobi at the End of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace Way Back in 1999, Darth Maul has since shown some surprising staying power. The character instantly cut an iconic figures thanks to his red skin, Stark, Black Markings, Horns, Sharp Yellow Teeth, and, of Course, His double-sided lightsaber. Instantly Filing Audiences with Intrigue, Maul Remains Largly Silent Throughout The Phantom Menacebut quickly proves himself to a formidable adversary, even Killing Liam Neeson’s Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.
After being separated from his legs by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, it took some time for darth maul to return. But return he did and, after channeling his rage into the dark side and thus enabling himself to survive, maul received a smart pair of robotic legs which allowed him to continue to spread evil wherever he could. Taking to the Criminal Underworld, Darth Maul has played a key role in the comics, the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Warsand even showed up in Live-Action Again in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is just one of several major Star Wars Projects announced at Star Wars celebration. It has now been confirmed that movies from James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi and a whole new trilogy by Simon Kinberg are now in ongoing development. It has also been confirmed that Oscar nominee and Barbie Star Ryan Gosling Will Lead Star Wars: Starfighter for Deadpool & Wolverine Director Shawn Levy. So, while many Star Wars Fans feel that the franchise has been watered down by Disney, the studio clearly has no intentions of slowing down. So drink up.
