Shadow Puppet Performance in Pacitan, Ibas invites residents to preserve culture

Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of the MPR Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas) attended a shadow puppet show at the General Sudirman Monument, Nawangan District, Pacitan Regency, East Java on Saturday night (18/10). The all-night shadow puppet show featured puppeteer Ki Purbo Asmoro who performed the play ‘Amartha Binangun’. Regarding the play ‘Amartha Binangun’ in this shadow puppet show, Ibas said that the play tells the story of the Five Pandavas who helped defend and promote their lives. “I want us to be like the Pandavas in Pacitan Regency who have different roles. Some are Bima, Arjuna, Kresna, Nakula, Sadewa, who complement each other to promote their region,” said Ibas in his statement, Monday (10/20/2025). Indonesian independence, Ibas continued, was based on the struggle of the country’s founders, leaders, ulama and the entire community. “We have lost our battle today and we will continue that battle. So we must realize independence in the spirit of sustainability in development,” he said. “Unity, brotherhood, perseverance and enthusiasm to continue to work together and build all sources of life sectors,” continued the chairman of the DPR RI Democratic Party faction. As a representative of the people, Ibas emphasized that he continues to care, not only about greeting, listening, watching, but to ensure that the education sector can progress, ensure that the health of citizens is truly guaranteed, the sustainability of infrastructure development, including the agricultural sector, job opportunities, and the improvement of the welfare of citizens. “But the condition is that we must be united to ensure that sustainable development and increased prosperity are truly achieved in accordance with national values ​​based on Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, the unitary state of the Republic of Indonesia, and diversity in Bhinneka Tunggal Ika,” Ibas said. At the end of his speech, Ibas handed over the puppet character Bima to puppeteer Ki Purbo Asmoro. Ibas hopes that the wayang typical of the Javanese and Pacitan communities will be preserved. “Ki Purbo Asmoro has always been a skilled puppeteer in Pacitan Regency, hoping to infuse art and culture with messages and thoughts that can be instilled in society for good,” he concluded.
