Shotgun shooting: Zorawar Sandhu wins men’s event bronze medal at Athens World Championships

New Delhi, October 17 (IANS). Zorawar Singh Sandhu, aged 48, won the bronze medal in the men’s trap event at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Shotgun Championship 2025. Sandhu won this title 27 years after winning her first senior world title. Shooting at the Malakasa Shooting Range in Athens, Greece on Friday, the Indian shooter braved rain, shade and a most inappropriate bib number to hit 31 of the first 40 targets in the 50-shot final. He finished behind former Olympic champion and now world champion Josip Glasnovic of Croatia (who won the gold medal with a score of 44) and junior world champion Andres Garcia of Spain (who won the silver medal with a score of 39). After the match, Zorawar Sandhu said, “It was a great experience. It was a tough course and tough conditions to shoot, but that’s why we are here. I want to thank my family, my coaches and my teammates for their support.” Speaking after the results, National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) President Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo said, “This is another historic moment for Indian shooting, with Zorawar helping us win only our second individual World Championships medal in Trap. It reflects the confidence level of our shooting team that with every international performance, new hurdles are being crossed for his dedication and also be crossed to Mark.
