Signed of the loan agreement between the government of India and ADB to improve urban services in Assam
New -Delhi, September 22 (IANS). A $ 125 million loan agreement was signed on Monday between the Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) with a view to improving the urban life in Assam and the flexibility of the climate. The agreement was reached for the development of urban structures and the strengthening of water services in six District headquarters of Assam and Guwahati City. About 3.6 Lakh people will benefit from this project. The agreement was signed by Juhi Mukherjee, joint secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and Miss. Mio Oka, Land Director of India resident on behalf of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance. The project provides the facility of measuring water supply and better rainwater management to the people living in Assam. In addition, attention will also be paid to institutional reforms and capacity building to strengthen urban administration. Of large functions and constructions, 6 water purification plants will be built, which will have a total capacity of 72 million liters per day. 800 km long pipeline will be laid. These facilities will be implemented in Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Golpada, Golaghat and Nalbari. A real -time monitoring system will also be installed so that water cannot be kept less than 20 percent. Flooding channels, advanced drainage systems and natural reservoirs will be built to prevent floods in the Bahini sink in Guwahati. This drug will help reduce the effects of flooding and recharge groundwater. The active participation of women and women in this project is also especially important. Women’s self -help groups will be trained in water operations. Internship programs are offered for girls. A special campaign on awareness of water, sanitation and cleanliness is introduced in schools.
