Snapchat down: Users complain about losing friends and streaks disappearing after AWS outage
Snapchat is still going to face the brunt of the AWS outage. The popular social media app faced downtime, along with half of the internet, due to the technical issue, but it seemed like just like other apps, Snapchat would also recover soon enough once AWS fixed the underlying problem. However, outage tracking platform Downdetector shows a new spike in reports for Snapchat outages in the US. The platform shows that Snapchat outage reports peaked around 3:12 a.m. ET with more than 21,000 reports. Around 8:57am ET, there is a new spike in Snapchat outage reports with over 10,000 reports so far on Downdetector. Sixty-two percent (62%) of users report problems with the Snapchat app, 34% say they had “server connection” issues, and 4% with the Snapchat website. Meanwhile, other users have complained that their friends’ accounts have disappeared from their list. “Snap was in some places in the world due to AWS outage. I was one of them, and I lost some data on Snap and it’s all wrong and can’t use it,” one user wrote on Reddit. ”Yeah, same. Everyone is gone. My Snap Map is bugged, I can’t add anyone. It shows everyone as ‘not found’. I’ve contacted them, hopefully they reply,” chimed in another user. Some users have also complained that their Snap memories are still not showing up on the app. Others said they still can’t send Snaps to their friends. AWS says it has fixed the underlying issues: AWS said it has fixed the underlying issue that led to the outage. In a status page Monday afternoon, the world’s largest cloud service provider said: “The underlying DNS issue has been fully mitigated, and most AWS service operations are now succeeding normally. Some requests may be throttled while we work towards full resolution.”
