Kedarnath Dham, located in the Rudraprayag district of the Himalayan state Uttarakhand, is synonymous with the faith and spiritual consciousness of the world, where people realize the presence of Lord Shankar in every part of Devbhoomi as well as the acquired divinity. After the victory in the war of Mahabharata, the Pandavas wanted to be free from sin to kill their family members and on the advice of Sage Vyasa, only the shelter of Lord Shiva could freed him from sin. With this wish, the Pandavas left for Badrinath Dham. To test the Pandavas, Lord Shankar became impatient and settled in Kedar. When the Pandavas got to know about this, they also followed them to the Kedar Mount. Lord Shiva, who came to the Pandavas, took the form of Buffalo and joined the herd of animals. Then the Pandavas planned to get the Darshan of God and Bhima took his great form and spread his feet on either side of the Kedarberg. It is said that all other animals went out of Bhima’s feet, but the Buffalo as Shankar Ji was not ready to go under his feet. Whenever Bhima tries to hold the buffalo by force, Bholenath took a great shape and began to sink into the earth. At that moment, Bhima violently grabbed the buffalo’s back. Lord Shankar was pleased to see the dedication and determination of the Pandavas, and he immediately freed Darshan and the Pandavas from their sins. From that time, Lord Shankar in Shri Kedarnath is worshiped as a back of the buffalo. The meaning of the word kedar is also considered a swamp, that is, the place that frees one from worldly swamps. Why Shiva is called Pashupatinath is related to Pashupatinath, Pashupatinath in the Neighbor Nepal, is directly related to Kedarnath. According to Scripture, this Jyotirlinga is part of Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, that is, the lower part of the torso is worshiped as ‘Kedar Shiva’ in India and ‘Pashupatinath’ in Nepal.
