Soni Razdan Birthday: Bollywood journey started with 'Aahista-Aahista', stopped after marriage, aged 62, wanted to work with Puri's daughter

New Delhi, October 24 (IANS). Film director and producer Mahesh Bhatt’s wife Soni Razdan may be gone from the screen, but in the 80s and 90s, Soni was known for her excellent acting. Soni Razdan gave many hit films in her film career but after marriage she stayed away from films as the work reduced. Soni Razdan will celebrate her 69th birthday on Saturday 25 October. Soni Razdan was born on October 25, 1956 in Birmingham (England). His father was a Kashmiri Pandit and mother was British-German. Soni adopted the culture of both but at the time of her marriage with Mahesh Bhatt she accepted Islam because Mahesh Bhatt was already married. Soni was already interested in acting. He honed his acting skills in English theater and worked in the English film John Fowles’ The Collector. This film, which came in the 70s, did not achieve much success. Soni worked in the Hollywood Bengali film ’36 Chowringhee Lane’ released in 1981. In this film, the pain and suffering of the Anglo-Indian people was seriously shown on the screen. Really liked the film. In the same year, she played the role of Deepa in her first Bollywood film ‘Ahista-Ahista’. Soni Razdan introduced the nuances of her acting in Mandi in 1983, Saransh in 1984, Trikaal in 1985 and the film Khamosh released in 1986. She appeared in the Hindi TV serial ‘Buniyaad’ in 1986. However, after love and then marriage, Soni Razdan began to derail. Sony revealed it themselves. She told in an interview that earlier it was very difficult for women to work in films and make their mark, because a format was prepared for the actress about what she would do. He told that before the marriage everything was going very well and after the marriage he stopped getting a job. Later it spread in the industry that if I got married, then what was the need to work. Soni Razdan was very shocked by all this, but she did not give up and continued to look for work, after which she got an offer for a TV series. Not only this, Soni has worked in ‘Monsoon Wedding’ in 2001, daughter Alia’s film ‘Raazi’, ‘War’ in 2019, and Amazon’s series ‘Peepa’. At the age of 62, she shared the screen with daughter Alia Bhatt in the film Raazi, released in 2018. Soni also tried his hand at directing and writing and directed the film ‘Girvi’.
