Fans are already anticipating what the setting for Skeleton Crew could mean for the new series and its implications. The eight-episode show is set to start streaming on Disney+ from December 3.
Despite the two-episode premiere being moved up, fans will still have a brief wait to binge-watch the entire series. This is due to the remaining episodes being released weekly throughout Christmas and into the New Year, reports the Daily Record.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew follows the journey of four children who stumble upon a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, only to find themselves lost in a bizarre and dangerous galaxy. To find their way back home, they’ll have to encounter new allies and enemies on an adventure greater than they could have ever imagined.
The show is set a few years after the final entry of the original trilogy, Return of the Jedi, during what is known as the New Republic era. This means that the galaxy is in chaos following the Empire’s defeat by the rebels, but it’s quite a while before the latest sequels.
The show is set to unfold concurrently with three other Star Wars series: The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. The updated chronological timeline of the Star Wars films and series now looks something like this:
Jon Watts, co-showrunner and director of the latest Spider-Man movies for Marvel, has disclosed their reasons for choosing the period following the original trilogy for the new show. Alongside writer Christopher Ford, they’ve admitted that the precise dates are still up in the air.
In a conversation with TechRadar, Watts explained: “First of all, we picked that era because it’s the best time for kids to get lost in the galaxy because it’s also the worst time for kids to get lost in the galaxy. There’s not anyone in place who can swoop in and help them.
“But we kept it a little bit flexible because we’re tied to the kids’ ages. So, as we look towards the future, we’re still figuring out where it fits on the exact timeline.”
Ford chimed in: “Yeah, it’s like we’ve thrown a dart but it’s not quite landed on the board yet. So yeah, there’ll be an answer one day and it’ll be an exact date.”
This setting means that all the beloved characters from the end of Return of the Jedi, including Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, are still part of the narrative.
Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian and Grogu might coincide with the Skeleton Crew’s escapades. Viewers will have to hold their breath to see if a crossover similar to that seen in the Boba Fett series could happen.
