Jakarta -Governor of Northernsumatra (Northern Sumatra) Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution invited the Governor of Bengkulu -Governor Helmi Hasan to strengthen inter -regional cooperation on Sumatra. This invitation was conveyed when Helmi visited the office of the Northern Sumatra -Governor in Medan. Bobby said Northern Sumatra has a major economic potential, both in terms of markets and commodities. Therefore, according to him, inter-regional energy can accelerate development in the western region of Indonesia. “In Northern Sumatra, the potential is very large, our market is also great, so unite our strengths, develop Sumatra, Northern Sumatra and Bengkulu,” Bobby said in a written statement on Tuesday (14/10/2025). In his vision and mission, he emphasizes the importance of strengthening cross-region cooperation to maximize the economic potential of the region. “Because many of our commodities are going to various provinces,” says Bobby. In response to this invitation, Helmi Hasan, Governor of Bengkulu, welcomed the idea of cooperation. He believes that Bobby’s steps may be the beginning of the formation of a Governors’ collaboration forum throughout Sumatra. “The meeting is not only with one governor, but invites everyone, we brought our respective programs,” Helmi said. Helmi hopes the meeting between governors will become a forum to expose regional potential and encourage local economic growth. “The target is that the economic growth rate may also increase. There is in fact a lot of potential, but it just needs to be investigated,” Helmi said. During his visit to Northern Sumatra, Helmi also visited the Medan Industrial Area (Kim). According to him, Northern Sumatra is worth imitating because it has an industrial area. He said Bengkulu does not have an industrial area in which the provincial government gets shares. “We visited Kim, we saw that it had an impact on Northern Sumatra, there are 55,000 workers, if made in Bengkulu, there will be jobs, the provincial government will also get shares,” Helmi said.
