'Supreme' trial over the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk Monday, woman accused of illegal supervision
New -delhi, October 4 (IANS). The Supreme Court will now intervene in the arrest of the Ladakh environmental activist and leader Sonam Wangchuk. The Supreme Court will hear the Habeas Corpus petition filed by Wangchuk’s wife Geetanjali Angamo on Monday. The petition is heard by a bank of two members of Justice Arind Kumar and Justice NV Anjaria. The petition states that Sonam Wangchuk was detained illegally and that it was not arrested under any statutory procedure. Wangchuk wife Geetanjali Angamo said in her petition that she had not received any information about her husband for more than a week. Neither the police administration nor local officials provide clear information on where and in what position is Wangchuk. The petition demanded that the Supreme Court intervened immediately and ordered Sonam Wangchuk to appear before the court so that their safety and legal rights could be secured. Earlier, Wednesday, Gitanjali Angamo wrote a passionate letter to President Draupadi Murmu and demanded the release of her husband. He said in his letter that my husband has become malicious for the past four years due to work for people’s interests. He can never become a threat to anyone. Please tell that four people have lost their lives in the case of violence on September 24 in the Union area. The violence occurred during the protests in which the status of the sixth schedule and state status were claimed to Ladakh in Leh. About 90 people were injured during the violence. On September 26, Sonam Wangchuk was detained for quoting violent protests in Ladakh. He was then sent to Jodhpur Central Jail in Rajasthan.
