Suryakumar Yadav calls Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill a 'fire-and-ice' combination reveals secretly behind chemistry
India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav praised the ‘fire-and-ice’ combination of Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. He calls their contrasting styles a perfect mix in T20 cricket. Sharma and Girl have been playing together since Punjab U-12 days. They have a deep understanding of each other’s game. While Abhishek loves large aerial photos, Gill relies on timing and placement with ease. Their partnership was most important during the collision of the Asia Cup 2025 against Pakistan. The 105 -run opening partnership played the most important role, as India comfortably chased 172 runs. Abhishek started in the very first ball with a 6 from Shaheen Afridi. He made it a habit of beating a border to open his turn in this tournament. Sharma beat his first 50 in the Asia Cup 2025 and scored 74 of 39 balls. Shubman Gill was at his classic best when he supported the Southpaw with a float 47 out of 28 balls. “It’s like a fire-and-ice combination. They complement each other very well. And that’s what I want to see. If someone brilliantly bats, the other can take the back seat and turn the strike,” Pti quoted. “It was necessary today to have a very good start. And they did it, ‘the Indian captain added. Suryakumar feels that their friendship off the field helps them understand each other well on the field. In fact, Abhishek and Shubman share their birthdays only a few days apart. Sharma cut the cake on September 4, while Gill celebrates it on September 8. Secret behind Chemistry “It is very important to be very good friends off the field. If you open together, the band is important. Sometimes you don’t have to say anything in the middle,” Surya said. “Just a look is enough to take a fresh single, to complement each other when you fly or if you struggle. That friendship comes into the picture when they bat together,” Yadav added. Abhishek and Gill will surely be present, even on optional days when no one else is bothering. Even if that meant that a full 40-over match against Oman played in Sapping Abu Dhabi Heat, took the two-hour bus trip from Dubai and returned to the ICC Academy the next day to help each other. During the Covid-19 pandemic, both stayed in the House of Yuvraj Singh in Chandigarh, and did neatly together and practiced with the white balancing in his home gymnasium. (With Pti inputs)
