Tears as Shelter Puppy Who Was Adopted With His Sister Returned a Day Later – ryan
A rescue dog who was adopted alongside his sister and then returned just a day later has brought the internet to tears—but he finally got his happy ending.
In early April, siblings Jax and Jazz, the Blue Merle Catahoula hounds, were taken to the Humane Society Broward County as their owner was deployed to the U.S. Air Force. The siblings have very different personalities, as Jazz is calm and relaxed, whereas Jax is far more energetic and boisterous.
Despite their differences, Susan Leonti, who works at the Florida shelter, told Newsweek that they always do their best “to keep siblings together.” They searched for an adopter who could take Jax and Jazz, both 10 months old, and give them the lives they deserve.
As luck would have it, that day came sooner than imagined as they were adopted within a week of their arrival.

But sadly, it wasn’t meant to be for poor Jax. Just a day later, he was returned to the shelter “because he was too hyper.” While Jazz had found her home, Jax’s wait went on.
“Jax was brought back to the shelter because he was too dominant over his sister. This was too much for the new adopters to manage, and they made the decision in the best interest of both dogs,” Leonti continued.
“The two have very different personalities. Jazz is much more docile and laid back, whereas Jax is high energy and was always the Alpha when playing with Jazz.”
After returning to the shelter, Jax didn’t show any signs of depression about being split from his sister. Leonti said he adjusted quickly, and it didn’t dampen his playful spirit.
The shelter posted on TikTok (@humanebroward) about Jax being returned within 24 hours and it broke plenty of hearts. In just a matter of days, the clip has gone viral with 696,300 views and over 66,400 likes at the time of writing.
Alongside the sweet video of Jax in his kennel, the post explains that this big puppy has “already been through so much.” The description noted that he’s attentive, knows how to sit on command, and absolutely loves treats.
“Jax is still growing and developing, so patience is everything. Jax would do best in a home with an experienced and attentive owner that will dedicate time to exercising and training this gorgeous dog,” the TikTok post reads.
Within hours of sharing his story, a new adopter came forward to take Jax home on April 12.
Staff at the shelter couldn’t be happier to know that both Jax and Jazz have found loving owners, even if they’re no longer together.
Leonti Told Newsweek: “As much as we always strive to keep siblings together, it’s known that litter mates are sometimes not compatible and do better socially with dogs they did not grow up with. This is the case for Jax, and we believe he will enjoy the experience of being an only dog, so he can get all the attention and training he deserves.”
While Jax didn’t have to wait too long to find his forever home, there are many more dogs at the Humane Society Broward County in need of adopting. Just like Jax, a 7-year-old gentle giant called Godrick thought he’d been adopted, only to be returned to the shelter shortly after.
Godrick was brought back after a year with his owners because he was having accidents in the house. He is still waiting for the right person to find him, and staff like Leonti are doing all they can to help.
After Jax went viral on TikTok, the post has amassed over 4,400 comments on TikTok so far.
One comment reads: “Seriously?! He was so excited to have a family and they returned him after 1 day? Praying someone will give him a real chance!”
Another TikTok user wrote: “How could you not fall in love forever with that goofy face.”
While another person added: “He was excited to have a family and home.”
