UK expands the Ukrainian troops training amid the pressure to strengthen the army

(Bloomberg) -The UK will expand its Ukrainian sellers training program in an effort to help Kyiv strengthen his army before any European and US security guarantees related to a possible peace agreement. The Interflex program, which offers both combat and leadership training, will be expanded early until the end of 2026, the defense ministry said on Saturday. The work on a possible peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia gained momentum this week, with the US and European military heads discussing security guarantees for Ukraine. A ‘coalition of the willing’ in the UK and France has developed plans to deploy a multinational military force to Ukraine to avert attacks to a peace agreement. The MOD said that meetings have involved more than 200 military planners and input from about 30 countries in recent months. The first phase of the package compiled will strengthen Ukraine’s Army with training and reinforcements, Bloomberg reported this week. Those powers will be supported by the multinational group mostly European troops, which are stationed in Ukraine away from the front line. A further part of the plan calls for a so -called US back stop, which will contribute the part of the intelligence, border surveillance, weapons and possibly air defense. More than 50,000 Ukrainian recruits have been trained in Britain so far. “We will continue to increase our support with allies so that Ukraine can defend today and deter tomorrow,” said defense secretary John Healey. “In the midst of the ongoing Russian attacks, we must place the armed forces of Ukraine in the strongest possible position. And as the push of peace continues, we must make the Ukrainians to the strongest possible deterrent to secure the future peace.” More stories like these are available on Bloomberg.com © 2025 Bloomberg LP
