Uday Kotak is all praise for Japan - it contains a conductor's gesture after the bullet train has been delayed by '35 seconds'
In a striking performance of punctuality and discipline, a Japanese Shinkansen bullet train was delayed by just 35 seconds- who asked the conductor to apologize to all passengers and repay their tickets. This incident underlines Japan’s extraordinary commitment to time management, a lesson that many countries, including India, can take to heart. As reported by The Times of India, the 35 -second delay was slightly longer than the Shinkansen’s average delay of 24 seconds, according to data shared by Central Japan Railway Company in 2016. This is not an isolated example. In 2017, the Tsukuba Express publicly apologized for leaving for 20 seconds early, and in 2018 a Shinkansen train operator apologized for the departure of 25 seconds before the schedule and called it ‘unforgivable’. Uday Kotak, founder and non-executive director of Kotak Mahindra Bank, emphasized the story on social media, and shared on X: “Japanese bullet train Shinkansen has been delayed by 35 seconds! Uday Kotak’s post soon became viral on the internet. A user wrote: ‘It’s about respecting foe other’s time. It has a major positive impact on the economy. “Another user wrote:” If it were in India, Indians would not have taken money back from the conductor … cultural difference. ” It’s really surprising. Getting late in India is a norm and never apologizes for a norm, ‘the third user wrote. This strict compliance with schedules contrasts sharply with India’s more flexible approach to the timing of the train, where delays are often expected. Japan’s accuracy in respect for time sets a powerful example in discipline and efficiency of public transport.
