An Indian activist in Finland, Sanal Edamaruku, was reportedly arrested in Poland on an Interpol notice by the Indian authorities. Edamaruku is being sought in India on defamation charges and has been living in self -imposed captivity in Finland since 2012. According to Rationalist International, a Foundation found Edamaruku, he was detained at Warsaw Modlin Airport on March 28. He was traveling to Poland to attend a human rights conference. The Finnish Foreign Ministry also confirmed to local news agencies that he was aware of his arrest. The Indian government issued an Interpol-Red Notice for Edamaruku and sought its extradition, the rationalist international said. Why was Sanal Edamaruku charged with blasphemy? In 2012, Sanal Edamaruku angered the Catholic Church in India after investigating the water dripping from a crucifixion and concluded that it was a sewage leak and not a miracle. As a result, he was charged with blasphemy. In 2020, Sanal Edamaruku claimed that his life would be in danger if he returned to India.
