“Bernik” magazine is a Libyan cultural child Rahal – ryan
He was born through the Libyan “Bernik” company, a cultural, literary artistic child who provides a delicious meal from various types of arts for the passengers of her journey, and this cultural child was called “Bernik” magazine, and each of them became outperforming his predecessor, so she attracted many literary pens in Libya to participate in its pages, and everyone who participates in its numbers is proud to publish his work and present it on his own account.
The editor -in -chief of the magazine, the journalist and novelist writer Issa Abdel -Qayyum, was keen to remove this newborn in each number in a professional in his design, colors, diversity and approach to the circumstances in which he reads great distances from the land and the closest to the clouds and sky, the center had a meeting with Issa Abdel -Qayyum to talk about “Bernik”.
Let’s start the story from the beginning .. When did the idea gave birth, and why is “Bernik”?
The idea was born during one of my trips outside Libya, where I was carrying an Arab magazine with me, so the passenger who is beside me asked me, then suddenly asked the passenger who was in the other bank, and when we got to the last station and found me looking for my magazine between the passengers of the other West Bank, I said to myself why the plane does not have a magazine that every passenger can enjoy throughout the trip and even owns it, I presented the idea to my friend and the head For aviation – so he welcomed it and supported it greatly, so its launch was with the first issue in January 2023 and today the magazine entered its third year.
As the editor -in -chief of the magazine, let’s talk a little bit about Maarim on which you are based on publishing in “Bernik”?
In fact, there is a basic factor that imposed some criteria strictly, which is the nature of the target audience, as it knows as a cultural magazine, its primary audience is the passengers of the plane, so we stipulated from the beginning, for example, that the materials be graceful so that it is between 500 to 900 words, which caused me embarrassment with many writers who are accustomed to elaborating in the quarterly magazines or pages of newspapers, and the editorial board also reads all materials and edits what requires editing, as is the journalistic custom – What some writers may not know – the editorial staff is the one who undertakes the status of the appropriate titles for each subject, and we are targeting diversity as a standard so that we do not publish similar materials in the same number and in general, the articles are paid for their ownership of the magazine, so it is the right to make some improvements or shortcuts in order to ensure a graceful and high -quality material.
I said that your fans are the passengers of the plane. Is it necessary for the publications to discuss the atmosphere of travel and flights?
no. It does not necessarily be enlarged as it will turn it into a journal specializing in the field of aviation only, and this is far from the nature of its fans, and if you browse the magazine you will find that talking about the atmosphere of travel, trips and aviation takes a small part of it, and the rest we distribute it between cultural, sports, social and human material The sarcastic and funny sophisticated, with carefully selected pictures to support materials and highlight their aesthetics.
To what extent this diversity is required in the magazine’s topics?
Diversity is an important and basic pillar and a success component in cultural magazines in general, so what about a magazine targeting their plane passengers between two hours to only four hours, this imposes on the editorial board to take into account diversity in order to ensure covering the desires and moods of the largest possible number of passengers, and making the magazine not boring or repeated in its addresses and material Food, and let us remember that Bernik is classified today as the first carrier in Libya, as it is transferred to and from Libya from several Arab stations, and during the year 2025 candidates to open up to Europe, after Turkey and Greece there, Italy, Malta, Spain and others, and this imposes on us the criterion of diversity and selection in materials.
This leads us to a question, what is the primary goal of the magazine? Traveler entertainment or a cultural meal?
I think that the goal is included together, as entertainment is an inherent goal of writing altogether, as well as education is another essential goal, without neglecting that we are targeting propaganda for our country by offering a part of its history and the civilizations that it has gone through, and it may be appropriate here to mention that the magazine translates between 4 to 5 of its materials in every number to English because of the presence of foreign passengers often on the plane, as well Libyan in several areas.
Can we know how many copies are on one trip? Is it permissible for the traveler to keep it?
Since a magazine is placed in the pocket of each seat, the number is not specified in every flight being linked to the number of seats in that plane, and often it is between 160 to 200 copies, and the passenger can keep the magazine, it is free and as a gift for him from the company, although I always find someone who wishes to take it thinking that it is reading inside the plane only, and in general we print between 8000 to 10,000 copies distributed over six international lines Likewise, internal, and the surplus we give it free to cultural centers and some libraries.
How many cultural activities have been organized by “Bernik” since the first edition?
The newborn “Bernik” magazine, and yet we have organized two important activities, and we target more activities during the year 2025, the Libyan Square is filled with creators and lacks only the establishment of cultural space and equipping a suitable rak’ah for the movement of creativity, cultural and art of all kinds, we are a country that is still spending on culture and art Caring for some activities in the coming years, God willing.
What are the biggest problems on the publication?
Thank God we do not have major problems yet, we may face some pressure in the delivery of the magazine at the right time, as it is printed in Beirut, as well as some embarrassment from the owners of long writings that do not fit the nature of the magazine, or materials that reach us and are similar to materials that have been adopted, so we apologize for not publishing it or we demand its delay, and it causes a narrow to some writers, and we hope that they will understand our position stemming from an attempt to present a magazine The press is in Libya, and in general it is a disease for us and is going at a good pace, praise be to God.
A final word for you
I thank you for giving this winning for the view of the audience and introducing the magazine, and I wish you and the press in my country more brilliance and success in light of the increasing stability, which indicates that the next is more beautiful.
